Turkmenistan's textile industry increases output 6.3 percent in first half of year

At an expanded Cabinet of Ministers meeting held on July 10, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of productive work to fully realize the production potential of the trade sector, including the need to implement comprehensive measures to improve the quality of textile goods and to take into account international experience in organizing the trade of carpets and carpet products. As reported at the meeting, the Ministry of Textile Industry posted a production growth rate of 106.3 percent for January-June this year, while enterprises of the "Türkmenhaly" State Association achieved a growth rate of 107.4 percent in total revenue. The comprehensive programs implemented in the country to diversify the industrial sector have helped transform Turkmenistan from a supplier of raw materials into a major producer and exporter of finished goods. Thanks to the large-scale transformations and investment policy carried out under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the textile industry has consolidated its status as one of the key sectors of the national economy in the year "Independent, Neutral Turkmenistan — the Homeland of Purposeful, Winged Steeds." Given its natural and climatic conditions, the country is a unique zone for growing the most valuable varieties of medium-staple and fine-staple cotton. Comprehensive state support and higher purchase prices for cotton, a strategic raw material for the textile industry, encourage farmers to grow abundant harvests, helping to expand the range and volume of products manufactured. With modern production built on innovative technologies, natural cotton fiber is one of the most profitable export commodities, as global demand for products made from environmentally friendly materials keeps growing steadily. Significant investment in the construction of high-tech enterprises with the participation of foreign partners has made it possible to supply the domestic market with a diverse range of products that compete with those of foreign companies.
