Silk producers in Turkmenistan’s Balkan velayat plan to harvest and deliver 25 tons of silkworm cocoons to the state this year, according to online newspaper «Turkmenistan: Golden Age». To achieve this, 685 boxes of healthy silkworm eggs (grena), adapted to the natural conditions of the Balkan velayat and capable of producing high-quality output, were timely distributed among experienced sericulturists based on relevant contracts. Of the total planned 25 tons for the velayat, 18 tons will be produced by silk farmers of Magtymguly etrap. Producers in Gyzylarbat etrap will contribute 6 tons, while those in the Bereket etrap will produce 1 ton of valuable raw material. According to experienced specialists of the inter-district enterprise, silkworms imported from the People’s Republic of China are successfully adapting in the region. This species is characterized by high productivity and resistance to diseases.
