The New Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Turkmenistan Assumes His Duties

On January 21, on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Chairwoman of the Mejlis, D. Gulmanova, received the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Turkmenistan, Christopher Duggan. On behalf of the Head of State, the leader of the national parliament congratulated the guest on the commencement of his diplomatic mission in Turkmenistan, wishing him success in his work aimed at fostering cooperation between the two friendly countries. In turn, the Canadian representative conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to the highest leadership of Turkmenistan and its people, confidently advancing on the path of progress and prosperity. During the meeting, the diplomat was thoroughly briefed on the key directions and priorities of Turkmenistan’s independent and neutral domestic and foreign policy. A fundamental aspect of this policy is broad international cooperation on both bilateral and multilateral levels, including within the framework of reputable international organizations and structures. Special attention was given to the activities of the Mejlis aimed at improving the national legislative framework, which is designed to facilitate the rapid achievement of the high goals of the Era of Revival of the new epoch of a powerful state. In this context, discussions also covered the potential for establishing inter-parliamentary relations to exchange legislative experience and further strengthen Turkmen-Canadian relations as a whole. As emphasized by Christopher Duggan, Canada is deeply interested in establishing a multifaceted dialogue with the promising Central Asian region, particularly with Turkmenistan, which is demonstrating impressive progress and achievements. During the meeting, both parties underscored the necessity of intensifying political, diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian relations. These efforts are facilitated by Turkmenistan’s "open-door" policy and its commitment to broad international cooperation in the interests of all. Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality extended in Turkmenistan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada assured that he would make every effort to further deepen constructive inter-state dialogue and strengthen the bonds of friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
